Growing up in rural Ontario, I have always wanted to visit Ottawa.Ottawa Now that I'm older and attending University, I have more opportunity to travel, but unfortunately, there are no reliable or affordable means for me to get to our nation's capital.

That is when I got thinking; how would someone in a wheelchair get to Ottawa? Drive a van? Most of us living on ODSP cannot afford an accessible vehicle. Take a bus? Takes too long for a weekend trip. Train? Also, pretty expensive. Fly? Airlines believe wheelchairs are pieces of "luggage," meaning they will not take responsibility for damaged and lost wheelchairs.

Jeff on a London busAre there any plausible options? What is a boy to do, when all he wants is to see the nation's capital?

There is only one clear choice; do it myself.

With joystick in hand and pavement under wheel, I will drive my wheelchair from London to Ottawa.
